Details:

Mullingar Pewter Evangelist goblet with motif of Man. The character of the man, traditionally and angel, on this goblet is taken directly form the Book of Kells. In Christian art the Angel symbolises St Matthew the Evangelist. The design around the foot of the tankard is inspired by Celtic Filigree work, which continues up to the bowl of the goblet, framing the figure of the Angel. Mullingar pewter features each symbollic representation of the Evangelists on a separate goblet. The other three are: The ox representing Matthew, the Lion representing Mark and the Eagle representing John. Designed and handcrafted in Mullingar, Westmeath.
