Born in Hong Kong to Chinese-Portuguese parents (1953), educated in London and based in Ireland, John Rocha is a versatile designer whose works includes womenswear, menswear, Waterford Crystals and interior design.
Drawing from his Oriental-Irish background, his designs are based on simple lines yet very exquisite.
He was named British Designer of the Year Award (1994).
In 1997 he launched The John Rocha at Waterford Crystal Collection, which includes tabletop crystal and lighting.
The new collections take the current design sensibility for opulence and crafted detail into the home, with designs that are as beautiful as they are functional. The new stemware is characterised by a contemporary shape, created by sculpting the weight out of the glass, and a modern approach to a classic cut. The result is a collection that is light and feminine in form and sensory to the touch.
John Rocha says: “Voya and Lume are born out of my wish to create a new range of stems and table pieces in the John Rocha at Waterford Crystal collection which are light delicate vessels. The crystal itself is finer than we have been able to work with before and the cutting though intricate and quite traditional is rendered modern against the lightness of the stems. The names of the ranges are almost self descriptive – Lume - as light, the weight and the sparkle. And Voya – the journey. Having worked with Waterford for over ten years now both these ranges are further steps in the journey we began in 1995.“
