An Irish Crios (pronounced Kris) is a mulit-coloured woven woollen belt. Traditionally woven from wool of six colours, often with a white border, it was worn by the men of the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland. Christy Crios are hand-woven by Liz Christy who uses beautiful tweed wool from Co. Donegal. Hand-crafted to use as a belt, a guitar strap or a hand-fasting braid to tie the knot.

A textile designer and hand-weaver, Liz Christy lives and works in Annyalla just outside Castleblayney, among the rolling hills of County Monaghan. Liz has a passion for Irish textiles, which she weaves in her Swallow Studios workshop. Drawing inspiration from the lush Drumlin countryside and paintings by her favourite artist, Claude Monet, her pieces are variant and lively. Christy can truly guarantee that all her pieces are handcrafted in Ireland. Hand-weaving is an age old craft and Christy's looms are powered by hand and foot and all her work has a woven selvedge.
