Mullingar Pewter Evangelist goblet featuring the Eagle design from the Book of Kells. Traditionally, the eagle symbolises St John the Evangelist. The design around the foot of the tankard is inspired by Celtic Filigree work, which continues up to the bowl of the goblet, framing the figure of the Angel. Mullingar pewter features each symbolic representation of the Evangelists on a separate goblet. The other three are: The ox representing Matthew, the Lion representing Mark and the angel representing Matthew. Desinged and handcrafted in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Mullingar Pewter was established in 1974, with most of the pieces still being made in the traditional way in the Mullingar workshop. 16 local men and women are employed, specially trained in the old casting methods, meticulous assembly and delicate hand finishing. The history of Irish Pewter goes back at least 800 years.Originally pewter was made from a composition of lead and tin. Today, the raw materials consist of 95% tin with the balance made up of copper and antimony.
